Career

I earned a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Kansas in 1997. My field of study was Modern European History but I started out in Classical History, and in fact, my foreign language component remained Latin throughout.

I work as a math tutor at Johnson County Community College. I worked for 9.5 years at a Borders Bookstore, for which I am thankful for all I learned. Having left there in May 2009, I miss some things about it but not retail itself.

I have been reading about Roman history since I was a teenager and my large personal library confirms my love, my addiction to studying history and human nature. I've always loved to read books of all kinds and fantasized about becoming an author. When I turned 30, I realized I had to stop dreaming and start writing. I have made some mistakes along the way, and as I'm interested in many things, so I sometimes dither away on side projects.

Finally in 2007, I began research in earnest on an historical novel set in Nero's reign. After reading a few hundred books and drawing a few maps and then laboring on several drafts, I published First Citizen Emperor in 2010 and a sequel, Too Many Emperors, in 2012.

Switching genres, I published a fantasy novel, Gold Tower, Red Tower, in 2020, with three more to follow.

I have never had a literary agent so all my novels are self-published and available only online.
